It is late in the summer, and as the students prepare for the new school year at Hogwarts everything seems well. Maybe a little too well....

Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox Empty
PostSubject: Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox   Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox I_icon_minitimeMon Oct 03, 2011 2:27 am

Rory stood in the utmost dark of the room, eyes looking down as he thought quietly. He mostly thought about Jayda, who was sitting in the chair behind his desk. "How long before you think they'll notice people are just sitting in the dark?" He asked and smiled. He then grinned, his eyes lit with passion as he leaned back on what he knew was an empty, clean desk. He laid his head down and yawned.

There was a sign on the door that said:

NOX

However, he wasn't sure if people would realize it explained why there was no light. "You sure you're cool with teaching in the dark?" He asked quietly, still listening for footsteps for newcoming students.

Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox Empty
PostSubject: Re: Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox   Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox I_icon_minitimeTue Oct 11, 2011 8:41 pm

Thomas headed to Charms, for once confident without looking at what he swore was cursed timetable. He noticed the sign on the door and tried to remember what that term meant... But his mind came up blank. "Nox." he said outside the door, just in case it was the password or something, but to no avail. He shrugged, slowly opening the door to see if he could get any clue, before realising the room was in pitch blackness... No one said he couldn't use Lumos in the class, so murmured the spell quietly, producing a dim light that was enough to help him navigate towards the corner of the room away from the door. He hoped no one would try to sit on him at least. "Nox." he muttered, now understanding the incantation. His eyes would probably need to adjust sooner or later, so he relied on his sense of touch to get his things out his bag and put them on his desk, before waiting for others to arrive too.

PostSubject: Re: Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox   Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox I_icon_minitimeTue Oct 11, 2011 11:26 pm

Dylan opened the door and frowned. "Helloooooooo" He called into the empty room. Shrugging he walked inside. "Lumos" The tip of his wand began to glow enough for him to find a seat without major damage to his legs. He waited a few seconds and when no one else came in he began to cover the tip of the wand and uncovering. "Interesting" He moved his hand faster and began to beat box along with the flashing light from his wand.

Dylan tended to get bored easily, that was a fact, but he was just as easily amused. He began to beat box a Muggle song her kept hearing on the radio.

Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox Empty
PostSubject: Re: Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox   Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox I_icon_minitimeWed Oct 12, 2011 11:36 pm

Adrianna stopped by the classroom to read the door. She knew Nox meant to extinguish the light placed on the tip of the wand but she couldn't remember what the opposite was.

"Light? Lunar? Bright? Twinkle twinkle little star?" She mumbled absentmindedly. Opening the door she walked in still trying to remember the spell... Before she noticed she was shredded in darkness she tripped over a chair almost landing face flat when she caught herself on a desk. Groaning she felt around for a chair before seating herself in it. A light bulb went off in her head.

"Lumino!" And she watched as nothing happened. Slamming her head softly on the desk she sighed not seeing but hearing other people.

Alura read a few books over the holidays on charms because she was always trying to achieve the best possible mark for her grade. She looked on the door and it said "Nox" she remembered reading about this word, Nox was to put out a light on the tip of your wand, the opposite was Lumos, to create a bright light on the tip of your wand to see in darkness. She entered the classroom to see nothing but pure darkness, she smiled in the darkness as no one could see her and cleared the smile on her face and said "Lumos" as a bright light appeared on the tip of her wand and made her way to the very edge of the classroom avoiding everyone else as to what she always did. When she sat down at her desk she saw many pairs of eyes looking at her, to avoid any blushing she quickly said, "Nox" and she was back in the darkness of the classroom waiting for the lesson to start.

Wade walked up to the charms room to see the door said Nox. Having no clue what it meant but knowing class was supposed to be here and at this time he opened the door. Seeing it was completely dark he walked and closed the door behind him.

"Hello?" he asked. He heard other people and making his way to what he thought was a corner tripped over someone and said sorry before standing and and figuring it was better to just stay where he was before he tripped and hurt himself or someone else as well.

Dylan had stopped as soon as he heard noise blushing madly, it was a good thing they were in the dark. People kept coming in, one by one and he tried not to laugh when they tried to move in the dark.

"The spell is Lumos" He whispered to the person that had tripped on him. "Say lumos" He chuckled, amused by the Professor's idea.

PostSubject: Re: Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox   Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox I_icon_minitimeSun Oct 16, 2011 6:50 pm

Listening as people came in and out, Thomas was thankful no one had sat on him in the dark yet. "I wonder if the professor is even here..." he questioned to himself aloud. Not that he'd suggest trying anything, but if someone did, then all the power to them. Even if the professor was there, it would still be a laugh.

"We could just all work together to light up the whole room, couldn't we?" he asked, actually speaking to the other people in his class, though he didn't know who they were yet. He drummed his fingers across the desk while debating what to say or do next.

Dyten hurried to class, he saw the sign and muttered Lumos. His wand lit up before he even entered the room, entering the darkness he saw the students already there. He found a desk and put out his wand, he was in the corner and away from everyone else.

Rory smiled, hearing all his students. "I would like it..." He stood and moved to shut the door. "If you would all drop your wands. Just for a moment, and enjoy the dark. Because, without magic, you're going to find a way to solve this little predicament we're in. NOX is a spell that generally would end the spell lumos on your wand, HOWEVER it just means night, dark, and with enough power, nox can end all lights in a room or castle or city. This was shown to you first because it's a bit of an eye opener. If there was no magic, how would you react?" He licked his lips and smiled. "INSIDE your desk, you will find a few muggle items, the first one to create light with no magic gets a house point. On my count! 1. 2. 3! GO!"

Inside the desks were a multitude of completely useless items. A flashlight, a candle, a lighter, a box of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Bean, childrens toys, etc. At the bottom of each desk was the homework.

"When you get something lit, you will find your homework and do it by the light you created. Once it is done, turn in your homework. Then go to the practice room and practice nox."

He then paused and smiled. "I'm sorry, Ms. Brown will be in the practice room to teach you the technicalities of nox. Wand work and pronunciation. Please, treat her as your teacher."

THE HOMEWORK PART 1:
NOX! (Write a short story 'a few paragraphs' about when nox could be useful)

"Tomorrow you may come back and we will be working with lumos!"

Dylan opened the desk and grabbed what looked like a candle then his hand hit something else. He frowned and pressed something on the side. "Uhhhhh" The flashlight lit up and he found the lighter and the candy. He popped one of the beans in his mouth and proceeded to look for his homework.

He frowned. When could Nox be used?

PostSubject: Re: Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox   Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox I_icon_minitimeMon Oct 17, 2011 8:19 am

Riley hadn't been sure what she was supposed to do in regard to the sign on the door. Nox was a spell that she had read about in one of her many spell book, and she knew that the counter was Lumos. Unfortunately, while she had read up on it she had never performed the actual spell.

Sighing, she simply entered and was glad to find that others did know how to use to spell, because from the light of their wands, she managed to find her way to a desk. Listening to the instructions, she nodded. Riley had left her wand in her bag, so she didn't need to put it down. Licking her lip, she began to rummage through the desk and felt a few items that she didn't know what to do with. One, she did recognize was a box of sweets but she was sure they would be no help.

When her fingers wrapped around the shaft of another item, she smiled. Her pinking had hit a button on the side and caused a beam of light to stream from the end. Turning the light onto the inside of the desk, she shuffled the remaining items further before finding a homework page. Picking it up and pressing the button again, causing the light to extinguish, she sat back in her chair and began working on the homework.

Finishing it as quickly as she could, she stood with her bag and parchment in her hands and walked to the front of the class. Placing the completed work on Professor Williams' desk, she smiled and walked away from it to the practice room. Seeing Jayda, she waved and stood just inside the doorway waiting for instruction from the woman.

Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox Empty
PostSubject: Re: Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox   Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox I_icon_minitimeWed Oct 26, 2011 4:37 pm

Thomas just put his wand down and left it by the leg of his chair, just so he knew exactly where it was. That way he wouldn't look stupid later, thinking he'd lost it, and he'd be sure of where it was if someone took it or anything that would be just as much a hindrance. Opening the desk, he pawed around as he tried to figure out what the various items were... A box of something. A rattle? Why would there be a little kid's toy in there? Maybe it was something else, but it was shaped like one and definitely made the noise of one. He shrugged and put it to one side, along with the box before continuing. His fingers closed around something cylindrical... He had no clue what it was, so didn't even try to figure it out this time and just put it next to the box.

How much rubbish could there be in one desk? Grumbling in his mind, he kept searching, hands eventually grasping around an object which felt odd... Small piece of metal, rectangular... After holding it on the opposite side to the metal part, he thumbed it, blinking when a small flame came on. A lighter. Thomas wondered if someone in the class would accidently set something on fire with theirs if they found it. Out of curiosity, Thomas turned the lighter on again, annoyed it could only give small bursts of light at a time, and saw that the things he'd gotten out had included a rattle, a box of sweets, and other miscellaneous things of no use, but one thing he did notice is he'd had a torch!

Breathing a sigh of relief that he had something easier for him to work with, he turned off the lighter and looked for the button that would turn the torch on, and it didn't take too long to find it. Looking back in the desk, he found the 'homework' he was instructed to do, though it could hardly be homework if it was going to be done in class. Since he was hardly about to call the professor out on the error though, he just started working, occasionally stopping and starting as ideas stopped or came to him. He looked over his paper quickly, just to make sure it was okay.

Nox

Nox is a spell which is normally used to extinguish the light on the tip of a wand created by Lumos. In fact, it is entirely used for this. However in 2000, there was an object that seemed to use something similar to this, however it could trap light and store it. This object was called the Deluminator, and was created by Headmaster Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. After his death, it was given to Ron Weasley through Professor Dumbledore's will. This object is believed to have been made because of the fact the use of Nox is so limited, and can only extinguish wand-light. Because of this, the Deluminator is an extremely prized possession, and many parties are asking the current owner to be able to analyse it. He refuses however, and says that 'Dumbledore did it without help, so why don't you all do the same?' Due to this, there is currently no other Deluminator in existence, and possibly there may never be.

He was pretty sure it was right, and he had written as much as he could, so he used the light in the torch to find his way to the professors desk, put it on said desk, and then walk out towards the practice room in order to do some practical applications of the spell.

PostSubject: Re: Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox   Lesson 1 - Lumos & Nox I_icon_minitimeFri Nov 18, 2011 7:27 pm

Lyra blinekd at the sign on the classroom door -

NOX

She tilted her head to her side much like an animal would and whispered it to herself. Maybe it was a password or something....
Lyra entered the dark classroom and whimpered, get a grip! her mind nagged. Taking out her wand she whispered the counter-spell to herself:
"Lumos."

A brigth ligth appeared revelaing several faces making her jump, a small squeak escaping her lips. Thats when she found her desk with the homework on it. She groaned and sat down.
